Planck Satellite Mission (replay) - June 28, 2011

Planck is an international satellite that was launched in May 2009 with the task of taking pictures of the entire sky and gathering light from a few hundered thousand years following the Big Bang of roughly, 13.7 billion years ago. The Planck Mission is a European Space Agency mission with collaboration from NASA / JPL.  UCSB scientists working on the Planck Mission, Philip Lubin, Ph.D., Peter Meinhold, Ph.D., Greg Dobler, Ph.D., & Andrea Zonca, Ph.D. stop by Radio Causeway to talk about their work and the early data coming in from the Planck satellite.

"Encoded in the Planck maps is an enormous amount of information, including the birth of our universe and our ultimate fate," said Philip Lubin, UC Santa Barbara professor of physics.

Potential Alzheimer's Disease Treatment, Dr. Michael Bowers (replay) - June 21, 2011

Michael T. Bowers, PhD is the lead author of a recent publication in Nature Chemistry titled, Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry Reveals a Conformational Conversion from Random Assembly to β-Sheet in Amyloid Fibril Formation. Dr. Bowers comes to Radio Causeway to talk about his group's research that have uncovered a potential breakthrough in the treatment of amyloid diseases such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Type 2 diabetes.    Dr. Bowers is the director of the Bowers Group and a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara Gypsy/Folk/Math Rockers, OSO - June 14, 2011

For the Radio Causeway Spring 2011 Season Finale and Pav's last show as a weekly co host we will be joined by Santa Barbara's own, OSO!  After taking a one year hiatus they are back together playing their unique blend of gypsy/folk/math rock with a twist of unicycle that have garnered them wide praise.  They will be playing a show on Wednesday, June 15th at SOhO Restaraunt and Music Club in Santa Barbara.

Megan Birney, Community Environmental Council / Solarize SB - June 7, 2011

Megan Birney is a Renewable Energy Specialist for Santa Barbara's non-profit Community Environmental Council (CEC).  She stops by Radio Causeway to discuss Solarize Santa Barbara, a group purchasing discount program developed by the CEC to give Southern Santa Barbara home owners an opportunity to transition their homes to solar power.  The CEC is working to make the region "Fossil Free by '33".
